      Chapter 23

    • Jared's POV • 

I squeezed my cellphone in anger and fright as I rushed up the staircase. Tiana just texted and she said she was in some kind of trouble. It sounded so urgent that I couldn't overlook it like I would most times. So, here I was. Going into her home with uncertainty and worry.

I brushed past her pet dog without acknowledging it and there she was, sitting but the window and holding her phone.

My nostrils flared angrily as I approached her with jumpy steps. She slowly turned around and our eyes came in contact.

"You are here!" She muttered running to me. 

She pulled me into a hug and I'm so angry that I shoved her off in one push.

"What the hell, Tiana? You told me you are in trouble. What's going on? Where's the danger?" I asked huskily.

"I'm sorry I lied to you. It's just that I felt so lonely and wanted to spend time with you." Her voice shook as she spoke.

"What's that supposed to mean? Why did you have to lie?" I shot out struggling to maintain my cool.

"I'm sorry." She sniffled and tried to hug me again.

I don't let her and step away from her.

"I want to be alone but you dragged me out here so I attend to you while I'm not mentally happy?" 

She shuddered. "No, that's not it. That's not true. I didn't know you wanted to be alone. Well, you can just be here. I won't bother you, Jared. I just can't be alone right now."

"I'm leaving..."

"No, Jared! This is not the first time you are acting like this. Can't you ever understand me? I always understand you during your weakest moments." Tiana argued and I frowned.

"That's where you are wrong, Tiana. You have never seen my weakest moments so save your superhero frame to yourself." I spat.

Her nostrils flared as well.

"You are so cruel! You are a monster! Sometimes I wonder why I even put up with you anyway! You heartless guy!" She yelled with tears descending from her pale eyes.

I didn't even notice her drenched eyes — like she had been crying before. I was too angry to notice.

"You are so pathetic, Tiana! So stupid." I cussed ruffling my hair.

"I hate you." She bit off before returning back to her position near the window.

'I can't stand her right now', my wolf muttered.

My whole being was pissed off even before I got here but now, I'm already on fire from so much anger.

Suddenly, Tiana's crying voice was heard calmly in the room and somehow, I wanted to turn on some music so it can drown her voice.

I stood there for some minutes watching her cry and I felt satisfied from it. A little bit because she stressed me. She always does.

When I'd had enough and I was afraid she would pass out, I walked over to where she sat and pulled her up.

"That's literally enough." I breathed looking emotionlessly at her.

She doesn't say anything but takes off her shirt right in front of me and uses it to clean her nose and the other part her face.

Great, she's half unclad in front of me.

She doesn't speak to me as she goes up to her room to have a bath.

I now understood what happened.

Tiana's parents fight a lot and were still going through the divorce process. I guess the had another serious fight this morning before leaving for work. 

Somehow, I see myself being a hard man.

I might not fight or smash things around with my future wife but I'd do worse than she can imagine when pissed off. It's a creepy thought and I don't want to go there.

Tiana returned dressed in a red dress that fits her perfectly. She grabbed her phone and turned to me.

"What are you waiting for? Let's go on a field trip." She giggled and I rolled my eyes.

"I'm leaving." I growled.

"Yeah, you are leaving with me in your cat to s field trip. Let's say we go to the beach?" She asked showing me puppy eyes.

I didn't know if it was about the eyes or the fact she experience her parents tear each other apart with words again. I didn't know what it was but I agreed — grumpily.

We left the house and after she locked up, we entered my car and drove off.

"I'm not even with clothes to swim." I mumbled turning the wheel.

"Don't worry about that, I'll get you new boy shorts at the beach." She offered and I don't reply her.

We did arrive at the beach and she did buy me some ugly shorts with her favorite red color.

I wore one and we went to the ocean side.

She tried to hold my hand but I don't let her. She then dances to make me laugh and I just chuckled.  

After playing around including playing volleyball, we headed to a small bar at the beach where a lot of people were around drinking. Tiana joined the drinking and kept talking about her parents and how they're ruining her life. And she doesn't know who to choose when they finally divorce.

I told her to choose me and she laughed so hard that I thought it would never end.

I had to lodge a room at one of the resorts because I felt tipsy too. Tiana on the other hand was mad drunk and I had to carry her all the way up to the room. After having a bath, I came back to see her still awake and just staring at the ceiling.

"I'll sleep at the couch." I announced putting on new shorts.

Her eyes drifted to mine and I don't let the eye contact last.

We weren't always being intimate because I haven't found my mate and also it'd be bad to be entangled to her with a baby. There are so many restrictions. I'm even surprised I'm surviving all of this.

"Let's share the bed." She cried out kicking her feet.

I decided to ignore her and turn off the lights. 

I got on the couch which was at least long enough and I folded my hands from how chilly the night was.

Suddenly, I felt her moving and she laid on top of me.

"Please.." She murmured holding onto me tightly. 

"Go to sleep, Tiana." I urged and she got off me. 

It didn't take time and I felt her on me again. This time, she's unclad!

I shuddered on feeling her skin against mine.

Our lips sealed and I lifted her and took her to the bed. I wasn't thinking straight as I made my way in. The room was nowhere peace and quiet.

       • MORNING • 

Tiana lifts her eyelid slowly as she makes out her current state of being. She feels weak and hurt in certain places and she groans in discomfort.

"What...happened..." She mumbled with blurry eyesight.

She racked her brain for some quiet minutes and goosebumps flooded her skin as she remembered what happened - everything that happened the previous night.

She's not scared of anything else but one thing.

"I've not gotten my birth control shot in a month." She muttered as it dawned on her.

And Jared didn't use protection.

She rises up from the bed and didn't find Jared around. She took her bath and got dressed before leaving with her stuff.

She bumps into Jared outside whom had been in the car waiting.

Tiana noticed how happy he looked unlike yesterday. They both drove off from the beach.

On the way, Jared stopped by a jewelry store and bought a watch while Tiana waited in the car — impatient to go home and see what she can do about the intimacy.

When Jared returned, she kept a happy face as much as possible so he doesn't ask questions about her countenance.

"What did you get?" She asked smiling.

"It's just something for you." Jared replied lowly as he passed her the small bag with nervous hands. 

Tiana accepted the box in surprise and flipped it open. It was a good watch. Glistening and looking gorgeous. It was one of the few gifts she has received from Jared and it caused her to cry.
